Formulas

Single stroke volume: Vsingle = π · D² · L / 4 (mm³). For a full cycle, sum extend and retract, then convert to liters: L = mm³ / 1e6.

Normal liters: NL = L × (Pabs/Pstd) × (Tstd/Tamb), with Pstd = 1.01325 bar(abs), Tstd = 0°C.

Pressure conversion: Pabs ≈ Pg + 1 bar (abs). Example: 6 bar(g) → ~7 bar(abs).

Double-acting cylinders: Retract side area reduces by rod area per ISO mapping.

ISO 15552 — Pneumatic cylinders (interchangeable)

ISO 15552 defines mounting and overall dimensions for linear pneumatic cylinders to ensure interchangeability between manufacturers. It supersedes older dimensional standards (e.g., ISO 6431/VDMA 24562).

  • Scope: Cylinders with detachable mountings and standardized interfaces.
  • Interchangeability: Aligns key dimensions such as mounting hole patterns and piston-rod threads.
  • Bore series: Common sizes include 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200 mm.
  • Mountings: Foot, flange, clevis, trunnion and other variants per standard.
  • Performance: Functional characteristics (force, speed, cushioning) are manufacturer-specific; the standard covers dimensions.

For dimensional tables and tolerances, consult the official ISO 15552 document. ISO catalogue: iso.org/search?q=ISO 15552.

ISO 8573-1 Compressed air purity

This standard defines purity classes for compressed air contaminants: solid particles, water (humidity/dew point), and total oil (aerosol, liquid, vapor). Select a class according to your equipment and process needs.

  • Particles: Classes specify maximum particle size/count.
  • Water: Classes use pressure dew point bands.
  • Oil: Classes limit total oil content (mg/m³).

For exact limits and test methods, consult the official ISO 8573-1 document and related parts. See ISO catalogue: iso.org/search?q=ISO 8573-1.

ISO 6432 — Miniature pneumatic cylinders

ISO 6432 specifies dimensions and requirements for single-rod, round-profile miniature pneumatic cylinders to promote interchangeability among manufacturers.

  • Bores: Typically 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 mm.
  • Form factor: Round body cylinders, compact and lightweight.
  • Interfaces: Standardized piston rod threads and mounting options for interchangeability.
  • Use cases: Light-duty automation where space is limited.
  • Scope: Dimensional standard; performance details remain manufacturer-specific.

For dimensional tables and tolerances, refer to the official ISO 6432 document. ISO catalogue: iso.org/search?q=ISO 6432.
