Frequently Asked Questions

What does Drawing Layout Planner do?

It picks the best ISO 5455 paper format (A4 to A0) and a standard drawing scale for a given part bounding box, so the geometry fits the sheet with sensible margins for CAD and engineering drawings.

How do I use the planner?

Type the part dimensions as AxBxC in millimetres, choose the views to display and the orientation, then click Optimize. The planner returns the recommended ISO 5455 sheet size and scale and previews the technical drawing layout.

Which scales are supported?

All ISO 5455 preferred scales: enlargement scales such as 50:1, 20:1, 10:1, 5:1, 2:1, full size 1:1 and reduction scales 1:2, 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:50, 1:100 and beyond.

What ISO standard is used for the paper formats?

The planner uses ISO 5457 / ISO 216 sheet sizes (A4 = 297×210, A3 = 420×297, A2 = 594×420, A1 = 841×594, A0 = 1189×841 mm) together with the ISO 5455 preferred scale series.

Can I switch between portrait and landscape orientation?

Yes. Choose Portrait or Landscape from the orientation drop-down. The preview and the recommended sheet size update automatically so the part still fits within the printable area.

Is Drawing Layout Planner free to use?

Yes. The planner is free, runs entirely in your browser and needs no installation or sign-up.
